Love decorating for the Fourth of July but don’t love spending a fortune? You’re in the right place.

Today we’re diving into super easy, super cheap DIY Fourth of July decorations that look amazing to say the least!  So, if you happen to a Dollar Store nearby (Dollar Tree, Dollarama, etc.), even better – because girl, you’re about to become a budget decor legend if I do say so myself 😉

Grab your glue gun, crank up the patriotic playlist, and let’s gooooo!

Budget-Friendly Ruler Sign DIY

Let’s start with a DIY Fourth of July decoration that’s creative and super simple—a patriotic sign made from rulers. Yup, rulers. Who knew school supplies could be so festive?

Materials You’ll Need:

  • 4 wooden rulers from the Dollar Store
  • White chalk paint
  • Red ribbon (1 inch wide works great)
  • Hot glue gun
  • A Fourth of July sign or cutout
  • E6000 glue (or something heavy-duty)
  • Scissors

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Peel off any stickers on the rulers.
  2. Arrange the rulers into a square shape, with holes only in a couple corners so you can cover them later with bows or stars. (We’re all about hiding our flaws here—no judgment.)
  3. Glue the corners together using E6000.
  4. Paint the whole ruler frame white. Let it dry like your hair after a pool party.
  5. Take your red ribbon and glue it top to bottom across the frame with gaps in between.
  6. Rotate the frame and do the same with new ribbons going side-to-side, weaving over and under to create a cute crisscross pattern.
  7. Glue your Fourth of July sign right in the center. Boom. Instant art.
  8. Add a bow to one corner to hide any holes and glue some foam stars or scatter decor to the other corners.

This is one of those DIY Fourth of July decorations that looks way more expensive than it is. And if anyone asks, just say you got it from your “custom home designer.” (That’s you.)

Patriotic Flower Pot on a Budget

This adorable terracotta flower pot is both a cute decoration and a fun craft project. Plus, it makes your porch look like Pinterest in real life.

You’ll Need:

  • A small flower pot
  • White chalk paint
  • Blue and red acrylic paint
  • Painter’s tape
  • Star stickers
  • Mod Podge

How to Make It:

  1. Paint the entire pot white and let it dry. (Patience, grasshopper.)
  2. Paint the rim blue. Let that dry, too.
  3. Use painter’s tape to make vertical stripes around the pot.
  4. Fill the spaces in between with red paint like you’re decorating a tiny, patriotic candy cane.
  5. Remove the tape and gently scuff the paint with sandpaper if you want a distressed look. Because nothing says America like vintage vibes.
  6. Add star stickers around the blue rim.
  7. Seal with Mod Podge so nothing peels, flakes, or falls apart faster than your diet after the BBQ.

Bonus idea: Add a real plant or a fake one if you want to reuse it year after year. It also makes a great gift at your Fourth of July party. Simple, cute, and budget-friendly—just how we like it.

Fourth of July Centerpiece

Ready to make a show-stopping table centerpiece? This DIY uses Dollar Store jars, foam scatter, and bamboo sticks. It’s one of those DIY Fourth of July decorations that’s easy to build but makes a big impact—like fireworks, but less noisy.

Supplies:

  • Red, white, and blue glass jars
  • White rocks or pebbles
  • Fourth of July foam stars
  • Bamboo sticks (small skewers work too)
  • Ribbon
  • Hot glue

Directions:

  1. Fill each jar with white rocks for weight. No one wants a toppling centerpiece.
  2. Glue foam stars to the tops of the bamboo sticks.
  3. Stick the bamboo sticks into the jars—start with the big stars, then add smaller ones to fill in the gaps like you’re arranging a bouquet of freedom.
  4. Wrap ribbon around each jar and glue in the back to hold it.

Set this in the center of your picnic table and prepare for compliments. Or just nod politely while someone pretends they thought it came from Etsy.

Budget Banner with Patriotic Energy

Let’s talk banners. These DIY Fourth of July decorations are perfect for mantels, walls, porches, or anywhere that needs a little red, white, and wow.

What You’ll Need:

  • A burlap banner from the Dollar Store
  • Red and blue paint
  • Cosmetic sponge (also from Dollar Store)
  • Foam star scatter
  • Hot glue gun

How to Do It:

  1. Use a sponge to paint half the banner flags red and half blue. No need to be perfect—it’s rustic, remember?
  2. Let them dry, then alternate colors when stringing them back on.
  3. Hot glue white foam stars onto the flags like patriotic polka dots.

This is a super cute way to show your spirit while staying within budget—just like understanding the difference between fixed budget and flexible budget helps you manage your money without crying into your receipts.
